Gretchen raises sheep and goats and hates mowing the lawn, she is the author of "The First Year: Type 2 Diabetes" and she dropped out of a Harvard PhD program in biology and took a job as a live-in maid. She started her blog because she'd rather blog than clean. When there is a cure, Gretchen plans to retire and read some of the hundred books in her house.

Alan, 60, Australia. Diagnosed on May 1, 2002. Uses diet and exercise and metformin. He is active on diabetes forums, loves to travel and loves to read. He started his blog as a way to share information to newly diagnosed people. When there is a cure, he will read up on it in depth and celebrate depending on the nature of the cure.
